Women-Led Micro-Enterprises Empowered in Three Provinces

Women-Led Micro-Enterprises Empowered in Three Provinces

In 2024, BRAC-Afghanistan, under the UNDP-supported Women’s Economic Activity in the Private Sector (WE-Act) project, aimed to enhance the entrepreneurial capacity of women affected by conflict and displacement in Kapisa, Logar, and Kunar. Shatoot Consultants was engaged to design and deliver a Business Management Training program for 540 women-led micro-enterprises, aiming to strengthen their financial, operational, and marketing skills. Through a structured training approach, including a Training of Trainers (TOT) for 14 female trainers, interactive business workshops, and one-on-one business plan coaching, Shatoot enabled women entrepreneurs to develop actionable business plans, enhance production efficiency, and gain market insights essential for sustainable growth. Our work empowered 540 women to become confident business leaders equipped with practical business plans tailored to their resources and goals.

Our Role and Impact

Shatoot Consultants led the project from concept to completion, drawing on its extensive experience in capacity building, gender‑sensitive entrepreneurship, and rural economic development. The team developed and translated a contextualized training package in Dari and Pashto, conducted TOT sessions in Kabul to ensure quality delivery in local contexts, and provided hands‑on, community‑based training in 17 target villages across three provinces. To measure effectiveness, evaluation tools such as pre‑ and post‑tests were designed and applied, allowing clear assessment of knowledge retention and training impact.

Transformation Through Knowledge

From small tailoring and handicraft ventures to local food production and retail operations, the women entrepreneurs emerged with a new understanding of how to manage costs, increase profits, and market their products effectively. The training not only built business acumen but also strengthened gender equality, as women gained visibility and leadership in their local markets.
