Community Kitchen Initiative: Building Local Capacity and Resilience

In partnership with UNDP Afghanistan under the ABADEI Program, Shatoot Consultants implemented the “Capacity Building of Beneficiaries on Operating Community Kitchen” project in Guldara and Arghandi (Paghman District) of Kabul Province.

The initiative aimed to create safe, inclusive spaces where community members, especially women and girls, could gain skills, share resources, and serve nutritious meals to vulnerable families. Beyond addressing immediate food insecurity, the project strengthened social cohesion, local leadership, and women’s economic participation.

Shatoot Consultants, in collaboration with UNDP and its partners, successfully established and operationalized two community kitchens, directly benefiting hundreds of community members.

  • 2 community kitchens established in Guldara and Arghandi
  • On-the-job coaching and training provided to kitchen members on hygiene, nutrition, and business management.
  • Community steering committees formed to oversee long-term management and ensure sustainability.

The initiative not only provided essential meals but also built vital community capacity, empowering participants with the knowledge to sustain kitchen operations and expand them into potential small-scale enterprises.
